Aston Villa v Chelsea preview

Aston Villa head into Saturday night's match looking to make it three Premier League victories in a row as they bid to tighten their grip on the fourth and final Champions League position, which would see them compete in Europe's premier cup competition for the first time in 42 years.

Unai Emery's side currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League, and head into the weekend six points clear of Tottenham, who have played two games fewer, though those games in hand come against Chelsea and Manchester City.

The West Midlands side have won each of their last five matches at Villa Park ahead of Sunday's bout with Chelsea, and will back themselves to make it six from six, with half an eye on preparations for next week's home Europa Conference League semi final first leg against Olympiacos.

Chelsea make the trip to the Second City with a desperation to recover from being thrashed 5-0 by Arsenal in a London derby on Tuesday night, which saw them lose ground in their bid for a top six finish and place in the Europa League next season.

Mauricio Pochettino's side have now lost two on the spin, having previously gone nine matches without defeat, before their 1-0 loss at Wembley to Manchester City in the FA Cup semi final last weekend.

The west London side remain in ninth place in the Premier League table, three points behind Newcastle in seventh, with their goal difference having also taken a bit of a beating on their forgettable night at the Emirates on Tuesday.

A sixth placed finish, which Chelsea are six points off with a game in hand, is guaranteed to be enough to qualify for European football next season, something Chelsea missed out on this campaign, whereas seventh would only be enough if Manchester United lose to Man City in the FA Cup final next month.

Chelsea have won only one of the last four meetings between the two sides, that win coming in their most recent match earlier this season in an FA Cup fourth round replay at Villa Park, a stadium at which the Blues have won on six of their last seven visits, and each of their last three.

📝 Aston Villa v Chelsea betting tips

Four of the last five meetings between the two sides at Villa Park have seen both teams score, and goals could be likely on Saturday night with both sides still with a lot to fight for as the season draws nearer to its close.

Erling Haaland is the only Premier League player to have scored more goals in all competitions this season than Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins, who will be looking to add to his 26 goals this season against Chelsea on Saturday night.

No player on either side has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards this season than Chelsea midfielder Moises Caicedo, and bet365's pricing of both teams to score, Watkins to score and Caicedo to be carded at 7/1, looks like it holds some value.
