Leeds United could swoop for Everton striker if loan bid for Liverpool starlet fails

Leeds United could make a move for Everton striker Cenk Tosun should their loan bid for Liverpool starlet Rhian Brewster fail according to The Athletic.

The Whites could look to add reinforcements to their squad in January, particularly upfront where they are rather lightweight in terms of options and with on-loan striker Eddie Nketiah’s future still in doubt they may need to bring in additions.

The 20-year-old Arsenal man has not managed a league start this season for Leeds, despite making an impact when being introduced from the bench in the Championship and also scoring goals in cup competitions.

Striker, Patrick Bamford has tended to be manager Marco Bielsa’s preferred option to lead the line in the lone striker role and this had led to concerns that Nketiah could return to his parent club in January.

Cenk Tosun has failed to make a real impact on Merseyside since his arrival in January 2018 for a reported £27million transfer fee and could be set for a loan spell elsewhere as he looks to resurrect his fledgling career.

There has been speculation of Tosun making a loan move to Galatasaray but he rejected this in favour of staying at Everton despite being behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Moise Kean in the striking department.

The real stumbling block over a move for Tosun could be the expense of a deal due to the wages he currently earns at the Toffees and a more realistic option like Brewster may well be more within Leeds’ financial restraints.

In an ideal world, Leeds are hoping that Nketiah will stay and they will not be forced into the January market, but the striker’s fate is left in the hands of Arsenal who could look to recall him following their recent disastrous run of form.
