Nottingham Forest plot £2 million swoop for Dundee United striker

Nottingham Forest are keeping an eye on Dundee United starlet Lawrence Shankland.

The Scottish Championship side will face a major battle to hold onto the striker this January, as per a report by Wales Online.

Rangers and Celtic are being linked with a winter move for him, as well as Championship side Swansea City.

Forest, who beat bitter rivals Derby County in the East Midlands derby yesterday, have joined the race to sign him as they look for another striker to bolster their options this January.

Shankland, who is a Scotland international with two caps under his belt, only joined Dundee United in the summer but has already scored 19 goals for them.

He made the headlines over the past two seasons after scoring a combined 62 goals for Ayr United and was a man in-demand before deciding to join the Terrors in July.

The Glasgow-born forward started his career at Queen’s Park and earned himself a move to Aberdeen as a youngster after scoring 15 goals in 44 games. However, he struggled to make an impact Pittrodrie and was loaned out to Dunfermline Athletic, St Mirren and Greenock Morton before leaving permanently for Ayr in 2017.

He has become the most prolific striker around in Scotland and is no doubt destined for bigger things in his career.

Nottingham Forest have their sights set on a long-awaited return to the top flight this season under Sabri Lamouchi and may fork out £2 million to try and lure him to the City Ground over the coming months.
