ITFC Women Thrash Canaries in FA Cup
Sunday, 27th Oct 2019 21:44

Ipswich Town Women thrashed local rivals Norwich City 6-1 at the Goldstar Ground, Felixstowe this afternoon to progress to the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup.

The Tractor Girls, who beat the Canaries 4-1 in the home league fixture earlier this season, went ahead in only the third minute via the first shot of the game, Anna Grey netting her first senior goal.

Nine minutes later, it was 2-0, Natasha Thomas finishing from close range after good work from Grey on the left.

Thomas made it 3-0 with her second on 22, then seven minutes before the break Paige Peake hit the fourth, a rebound from her own penalty which had struck the post after Eloise King had been brought down.

Norwich pulled a goal back six minutes after the restart but the Blues restored their four-goal advantage on 58 when Sophie Peskett rebounded a Grey shot which the Canaries’ keeper had spilled.

Town, who were watched by their second-highest crowd of the season, 667, had further chances to add to their lead but didn’t make it 6-1 until the 89th minute when sub Maddie Biggs shot home via a deflection.

“Another good turnout from our supporters today, nowhere near our best performance but delighted to win another derby and progress into the next round of the Women’s FA Cup,” said manager Joe Sheehan.

Town: Jackson, Wilson, Egan, Thomas, Crump (c), King (Biggs 46), Cooper, Lafayette, Grey, Peake (Pannifer 79), Peskett (Cossey 63). Unused: Hubbard, Stretch, Dunn, Sutherland. Att: 667.

Well done girls and thanks for a great afternoons entertainment.

Mrs Budgieplucker and myself love our Sunday visits to the seaside taking in the tractor girls at the welcoming Goldstar Ground.

Well coached, and love the way they try to play the game. Some really good players and young Anna Grey has a great match on the wing.

Norwich has some good players, but quite frankly don't play as a team like our girls.

It's a great time to be a fan of the ITFC family at the moment and especially witnessing the enthusiasm of the way the girls go about their business.

Well done to all the fans who turned up and created a lovely atmosphere including all the lads behind the goal banging the boards.

Look forward to my next trip to Goldstar with perhaps a stroll on the prom, a bag of chips and plenty of wonderful lung refreshing sea air, and might be able to get rid of a few old pennies in the slot machines as well. What could be better!!!

Great day out. A good game, with some good skills and great teamwork from ITFC. I've seen most of their home games this season, and will keep going along. Well done, Felixstowe & Walton, for sorting extra catering today - still queues, but it's not so bad when you can still watch the game while waiting. Many fans enjoyed being able to have a beer during the game too.

My first visit to The Goldstar Ground, a great setting for this young evolving Town team. Also the first time that I have seen a whole game by the Ipswich Women's team, I did watch the second half of the previous cup encounter at Playford Road.
Very strong first half performance yielding a 4-0 scoreline, (it was interesting that Manager Sheehan felt that it could have been better), that bodes well for the future of this team.
Norwich tightened up, and pulled one goal back in the second half, but never really threatened the result as two more goals for (The Tractor Girls) sealed a fine 6-1 victory.
To ALL Ipswich Town supporters (of all our teams), get on down to The Goldstar Ground, support our Women's team in such friendly surroundings.
