Leeds United interested in move for Hearts defender

Leeds United have joined the chase to sign Hearts defender Aaron Hickey.

The left-back is a man in-demand after an impressive rise into the Jam Tarts’ first team, according to a report by the Daily Star.

Hickey, who is 17 years-old, has broken into Hearts’ senior side over the past few months and established himself as a key player for Craig Levein’s side.

He has been linked with Scottish Premiership giants Rangers, however their boss Steven Gerrard has poured cold water over the speculation and has said, as per the Daily Star: “Lewis Gibson isn’t on the radar, it’s just speculation. The kid at Hearts, Hickey, is the same. Craig Levein has had to answer that question but he shouldn’t because there’s nothing in it.”

Championship side Leeds are now being claimed to have joined the race to sign him. Marcelo Bielsa’s side are currently 2nd in the league after beating Birmingham City at Elland Road yesterday.

The Whites continue to have one eye on the future and have opted to sign young players over the past few transfer windows so the same could apply this January.

Hickey, who is a Scotland Under-17 international, has risen up through the youth ranks at Hearts after a brief spell at Celtic.

He was handed his first team debut in May in a league game against Aberdeen and started for Hearts in their Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic in the same month.

Hickey has since become a regular starter and scored his first goal last month in the Edinburgh derby against Hibernian.
