A report from the Portsmouth News has said that League One side Portsmouth have opted against offering a deal to free agent defender James Meredith, who has been training with the club over the course of the past few weeks.
As reported here on The72 towards the tail end of last month, Australian left-back James Meredith has been on trial with League One side Portsmouth as he looks to come back into football having been released by Championship outfit Millwall earlier on in the summer transfer window.
Meredith came in to train with Kenny Jackett’s side after starting left-back Lee Brown picked up an injury, with the 31-year-odls een as an option to come in and further reinforce Pompey’s defensive ranks after Brown’s injury. Now, however, it has been reported that the club will not be offering him a deal with the club after his trial period at Fratton Park came to an end.
Now, Meredith will continue to search for a new club, With the season already underway, the left-back will be hoping to find a new club as soon as possible.
Meredith has amassed plenty of football league experience over the course of his career, coming through the youth academy at Derby County and spending time on loan at the likes of Cambridge United and Chesterfield. After leaving Derby, he has spent time with Sligo Rovers, Shrewsbury Town, Telford United, York City, Bradford City and Millwall.
It awaits to be seen if he will head elsewhere on trial or wait for a deal to be offered to him.
