Derby County set to turn down £2.5 million Premier League offer for star man

According to Derbyshire Live, Derby County are set to reject an offer in the region of £2.5 million from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion for star man and first-choice keeper Scott Carson.

The Seagulls have already had an opening offer for the experienced keeper rejected, and are reportedly set to come back in with an offer of £2.5 million, which Derby will almost certainly reject.

With Australian international Matthew Ryan already the established number one at Brighton, the Seagulls are clearly looking at Scott Carson to fill the boots of Tim Krul as the backup goalkeeper for this season.

However, since joining on a free transfer in 2015, Carson has established himself as a fans favourite at Pride Park and was one of the stars of last year’s campaign which saw the Rams reach the play-off semi-finals, making him indispensable to the Derbyshire side.

The 32-year-old has made 138 appearances for Derby since joining three years ago and even won the club’s player of the year award in 2017 following an impressive campaign.

Another stellar season last term saw shouts for the four-time England international to return to the Three Lions’ squad, albeit to no avail, but even at 32, it’s clear that Carson’s career trajectory is once again on the up, and it’s unlikely the former Liverpool and West Brom stopper would settle for a place on the Brighton bench ahead of another season as number one at Pride Park.

With Andi Weimann already out the door and Matej Vydra also set for an exit, Frank Lampard will be desperately hoping to keep one of his star men in Carson.
