Vintage Clarets

Chester's May Festival is filled with 5f contests and the draw bias with the 1 and 2 stalls are prevalent here too with those two occupied by the front two in the market.

And it's hard to side against these two, both with course form, Democracy Dilemma with a course and distance win, though they will have to do it off the 1 and 2 on the saddles, carrying top weights.

Vintage Clarets looks great at 8/1 but also carries a fair weight, though it shouldn't effect much as the three mentioned are very consistent in this sphere and should make a good go of it.

Democracy Dilemma has two wins from three runs here with both wins coming in style by a minimum of two lengths.

Though he might prefer the ground to be soft having never won on anything other than soft, standard on the all weather and heavy.

Roman Dragon was far off him when they met here in September, but this gelding trained by Hugo Palmer has had as many as 15 runs at Chester with five wins, though all coming at above 5f which is tough to side with.

And that's why Vintage Clarets has to be the bet with the value, draw, ground and consistency.

Teej A

Teej A stayed on to grab second last time out behind a very solid winner, she's the first of the fillies in the market at 6/1 but has a nice each-way claim based on her debut.

She was struggling a bit and made up a fair bit of ground toward the end, that suggests 6f is ideal and her pedigree also points to that.

She's got the draw in stall 1, and is out of a listed winning dam over 6f with plenty to like about her potential as a two-year-old on her second run.

Never So Brave

Forged on well to get a comfortable victory on soft ground last time out at Thirsk.

That proved his placings behind two exceptional horses last season/summer were no fluke and that he's got that little extra something.

He placed just 3/4 of a length behind Vandeek at Nottingham, with that horse now rated 119 while on his debut he bumped into another just too good, in Godolphin's Ancient Wisdom, now rated 115 and won two since including the Group 1 Futurity Stakes in October.

Never So Brave looks to be the real sort, by No Nay Never and ridden by Ryan Moore in the Derby winning colours of Saeed Suhail.

Point Lonsdale

It looked certain for Arrest to take this up but looking more at it, Point Lonsdale has plenty of appeal.

He's also won at Chester before, winning by a neck last year in the Group 2 Huxley Stakes before only ever really being seen in Group 1 and 2 contests in Britain and Ireland.

And only ever placing behind some of the big hitters like Derby winner Auguste Rodin and the likes of King Of Steel over 1m2f.

But this slight step up in trip to 1m5f looks ideal for a horse that placed sixth behind Rebel's Romance at Meydan in Grade 1 company back in March.

He's in the capable hands of Ryan Moore once again, trained by Aidan O'Brien and is a nice price to get behind, albeit Arrest takes the favourite spot quite easily.

He's got more proven form over further but has also been beaten comfortably by the same likes of King Of Steel and Auguste Rodin, where Point Lonsdale looks to have stayed on nicer over shorter.

It's a tough one to call but it's certainly up for grabs, with Arrest last being seen at Newbury but ducking at the start and losing by six lengths, where he's fairly often not too efficient in his running.

Kay Tara Tara

Decent second by El Elefante two starts ago and then went into a listed contest next time out, just 15 days later in fact.

But pulled up as a 16/1 shot where it was a tough ask regardless.

Been off since so can come back a bit stronger and fresher with this mare a fairly decent price for Alan King and Tom Cannon who are due a win.

And could well get that with this well-weighted mare.
