Daily horse racing tips

  • SOUTHWELL - 2.40: Circe (1.5pts) 3.10: Smart Hero 11/4 (NAP - 2pts)

Circe

This filly was tipped last week at Newbury when 17/2 SP under Sean Levey and could well have had a say at the finish had she had a clear run through, but was denied, multiple times which will not have helped her momentum.

I was quite keen on her at that price as she was the NB among some decent winners including Catch Him Derry and Outlaw Peter.

The filly had a great campaign as a two-year-old beating Looking For Queen at Doncaster in a Class 2 maiden before being given a lot of trust sent straight to a Group 3 fillies stakes at Newmarket.

That race was won by Dance Sequence a future Group 1 runner and 1000 Guineas frontrunner, she's been given a workable mark on the basis of that run and ought to be up there at the finish in this one too dropping to a Class 3 handicap.

Smart Hero

Smart Hero was a really interesting watch at Kempton on April 17th.

The Shamardal colt was a bit lit up before the proceedings and was really wanting to get going, but when the race went off he was slowly away and ran green before making huge progress down the outside to make up a huge amount of ground.

He was 11/1 but only just finished a neck second the SP favourite Sir Les Patterson.

He's another who should go well on second outing this season.

Elmonjed

A decent mark to start handicapping for Elmonjed under Jim Crowley for trainer William Haggas.

He's got ahead on his first two starts by some fine margins but the Blue Point gelding is set to improve greatly and in his three-year-old campaign progress even more.

He won well on debut at 11/1 and kept on to justify odds-on favouritism at Haydock the next time out when last seen in September, proving that debut victory was certainly no fluke.

Haggas is in good form going into the weekend and it should be an all too familiar sight of Crowley winning in the Shadwell Estate Company silks.
