Wednesday April 24th horse racing tips

  • Perth - 2.20: Findthetime 10/3 (1pt), 2.55: El Elefante 5/2 (1.5pts), 3.20: Apple Away 10/3 (1.5pts), 3.55: Gunsight Ridge 13/8 (1.5pts)
  • Ludlow - 2.00: Daddy Long Legs (2pts)
  • Uttoxeter - 5.35: Hudson De Grugy (1pt), 6.10: Cloud Dancer (1pt)

Findthetime

Hampered by faller on third start over fences which was his second attempt at around this distance, but still placed well in fourth behind subsequent winners in Cruz Control and Cerendipity.

Findthetime was last seen in January winning by 71 lengths to Halfway House but was essentially gifted the win after Champ De Gane pulled up and Gardener unseated his rider.

He was favourite but didn't quite live up to that billing as he didn't jump with as much fluency - however he's not been seen since and should be well-in fresh for new trainer Stuart Coltherd.

El Elefante

Has been somewhat frustrating to back with real potential and promise on the cards, but the mare has failed to win on four of her six starts this season.

She was nudged down in the weights before winning nicely at Ayr having shown she's capable of better in listed and graded company.

Including a close fifth at Cheltenham in October 2023 behind Encanto Bruno.

She returned to listed company at Newbury last month and was going so well before falling at the last and as a result has been upped another 2lb, she should finally get the next win to add to her promising career.

However, this is her first try over 3m, but this could be just what she needs back at a course she's won at before.

Apple Away

This mare has been bumped down in the weights to make her very dangerous on reappearance.

The mare was just second to Grey Dawning in Grade 2 company in January before placing well in third close up behind Henry's Friend at Ascot in another Grade 2 - before weakening out of contention at Cheltenham Festival.

But crucially, she's now 6lb lower than when she won at Leicester and placed in two Grade 2's.

Capable of better than what's been seen so far and is certainly better than her mark suggests with superior form over this sort of trip as well.

Gunsight Ridge

Tipped last month as a 2pt shot at Newbury in a Class 2 handicap chase, that was eventually won by the ever improving Heltenham.

He played a dominant role leading from the front throughout until the last fence really and should be ideal to follow in again dropping down in grade.

The nine-year-old was fancied to win at Newbury as he was not disgraced in defeat in his last three appearances, bumping into a top improver from the in-form Dan Skelton yard at Sandown in February, and then coincidentally again last time out.

He fell at Wetherby in a Class 2 and still hasn't been taken down in the weights by the handicapper, so he's due for a good run and on good to soft it may just come back.

He's opting for 2m again where that does seem to be the best way forward given how he dropped out of contention last time out and can remain a prominent role in dictating the pace from the front.

Daddy Long Legs

A classy hurdler from the Willie Mullins yard who's looking to take this fairly weak contest for £4k in helps for his British Champion trainer title.

But also to see how the five-year-old fares up against some lower rated opposition having tasted defeat in his last two hurdles, in Grade 1 company.

The gelding was 28 lengths off of Ballyburn in February in the Derby Sale Novice Hurdle after pulling up in December in the Paddy Power Future Champions Novice Hurdle to Caldwell Potter.

Should be much better now fresh from a little break and has Mr P W Mullins on board to help, against some lesser rated opposition.

Blueberry Wine is his only other opponent with a given mark, and that's just 106 compared to his 140.

Hudson De Grugy

The reintroduction of the visor seemed to help for Hudson De Grugy last time out and his return to 3m should be ideal as he's 4lb lower than when last finishing over that distance.

He fell at Sandown in February last time he faced the 3m trip - but his speed behind Jet Plane, who's since gone on to win again, puts him right up there for this having been out of the winners' enclosure for far too long.

The going is currently heavy and he can deal with those tough conditions though it could end up being soft by the time this race goes off, which is also ideal.

Hauraki Gulf also has a big chance having been off for just over a month since disappointing here in a Class 2 novice contest.

But prior to that he had been going very well over fences, including winning on chase debut in January, a decent third and another win at Leicester.

Cloud Dancer

Another Gary Moore-trained horse that could be a winner in waiting.

The grey gelding has been dropped 8lb in total since his race in March that saw him finish a decent third behind Jetronic.

Before finishing second to Phantomofthepoints at Chepstow in a Class 4 novice hurdle where he's been carrying much more than the winners.

But his third behind Doddiethegreat bodes well and seems ideally weighted if returning to better and previous form.
