The North American nation had put him on a shortlist on candidates to lead them into the 2026 World Cup, which they are co-hosting.

But despite holding talks with the Canadian FA, Lampard has turned down the chance to become their manager as he is prepared to wait for the right opportunity.

The former England international has not coached since his interim spell in charge of Chelsea towards the end of last season when he replaced Graham Potter.

Despite being in charge for just 11 games, he oversaw just one win and eight defeats in a miserable spell from April 6 to May 28.

Speculation grew last month that Lampard was prepared to return to the dugout a year after joining Chelsea when he was spotted watching England train ahead of their friendlies against Brazil and Belgium.

The 45-year-old is keen to continue his coaching career, in what would be his fifth job after Derby County, Chelsea, Everton and Chelsea again.

However, he believes Canada does not represent the right opportunity and he is prepared to wait until the ideal post becomes available.

Mauro Biello is currently in charge of the CONCACAF nation after becoming interim head coach following John Herdman's decision to take over at Toronto FC.

Lampard, meanwhile, led Derby to the Championship play-off final, achieved Champions League qualification and reached an FA Cup final with Chelsea and helped keep Everton in the Premier League after taking over from Rafa Benitez in January 2022.

“I’m enjoying being with the family and looking to get back at some point,’ said Lampard earlier this year.

“Hopefully something comes up that feels right for me, I’m keen to get working again but as I reiterate, I’m enjoying family life.

“It’s an intense job so when you’re out of it, it’s nice to appreciate being around all my children.

“You love the job. you understand the rigours of it in the modern day. I’ve enjoyed all the clubs I’ve worked with.

"They’ve all been big challenges for different reasons. I enjoy working with players, improve players and the team, so let’s see what comes.”
